The Lancaster Judo Club will be hosting the Shufu Open Judo Championships this coming November 17th at the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. We will be offering a tournament that we hope you will be talking about for a long time. The venue at Stevens Tech is a beautiful, modern gym that looks like it was built yesterday, and is spacious enough to run four mats with seating for thousands of spectators. The locker rooms, restrooms, and support areas are impeccably clean, and there is plenty of parking.

Our purpose is to run a large, first class tournament that is player friendly. We will use four high quality mats, digital scoreboards, and the Texas match card system.  There will be a dedicated website available months in advance, packed with information and where you will be able to register for the tournament using your credit card or even a PayPal account.

There will be shiai for junior boys and girls, and men’s and women’s novice, advanced, masters, and kata competition. The mats will be assigned to enable their most efficient use, and to run the divisions in an orderly, predictable manner.

The awards will be high quality medals for first, second and third places and plaques or trophies for the outstanding junior boys, girls, men, and women competitors.

Referees and support staff will have a comfortable area with a buffet of Asian, Italian, and Pennsylvania Dutch selections.

After thirty five years of competing and coaching in hundreds of tournaments and hosting a number of them myself, I have a good grasp of what competitors, coaches, referees, and spectators look for in a tournament. We are therefore presenting the Shufu Open as such an event, anticipating that you will want to attend year after year.

I hope we can count on your support by encouraging your students to compete in Lancaster this November at the Shufu Open, and for you to participate as a coach or referee. Please feel free to contact me anytime at 717-341-8287 or e-mail me at bsnaderlancasterjudo@verizon.net  or by mailing me at Lancaster Judo Club, 2317 Raleigh Drive Lancaster Pa.17601.

Best regards,
