Special Message from Chair, Board of Examiners, Regarding Shufu Fall Promotional

October 1, 2019

To: Shufu Judo Yudanshakai Community.

From: Miki Takemori, Chair of Shufu Board of Examiners

The Shufu Executive Committee has completed the flyer and sanctioning for the Fall Promotional on Sunday, November 10th at “The Compound” in Silver Spring, MD.

The initial deadline for  Dan Promotion (Form 20) is October 11th and must be sent to Karen Whilden, Shufu Registration Chair at shufurankreg@gmail.com. The fully completed/finalized Form 20 must be completed and sent to Karen by October 27th. Kata requirements must also be completed by October 27th.

I wish to remind you about the USJF “Ambassador of Judo” program which is designed to “fast track” a deserving member of your club to Shodan. The “Ambassador of Judo” program was approved by the Shufu Board of Examiners at the last Promotional. I have attached the information on this at the end of this memo. We did not discuss how we will test/implement this program into Shufu. I will add this to the Fall meeting agenda but I would still like candidates to be proposed to this program.

Kyu promotional lists (from Club Sensei or his designate) should be turned in by October 27th, so appropriate paperwork can be prepared for their tests. Kata requirement for Kyu candidates should also be completed by October 27.

Junior Promotional lists (from Club Sensei or his designate) should be turned in by November 3rd, so appropriate paperwork can be prepared for their tests.

In regards to the Promotional Standards, the junior promotional standards were approved by the USJF Board of Examiners. We will be following the new USJF Standards for the Junior promotions. At present, a new junior promotional testing sheet is being completed. I have attached those to this email.

As far as the Senior Promotional standards are concerned, the adjustment of the guidelines were submitted in the Spring 2019 USJF meeting but were tabled till the next meeting, which will be on December 14-15. Those revised standards have been resubmitted and hopefully this will be approved. In the meantime, we will be following the Shufu Senior Promotional Standards with some leeway towards the present USJF standards. I apologize for the delays.

I hope to see you in November.

Thank you,

Miki Takemori, Chair of the Shufu Board of Examiners
Roy Englert, President of Shufu Judo Yudanshakai
Karen Whilden, Shufu Rank Registration Chair

Hilaire Notewo Seeking Donations for Judo Programs in the Ivory Coast, Needs Gis and Equipment

Longtime Shufu Judo member Hilaire Notewo is planning to relocate to Côte D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Africa in late November/December. He will be supporting judo programs, but equipment (esp. judo uniforms) are difficult to come by.  Hilaire is looking for gently used judo gis and other equipment.  Hilaire will also be visiting and donating goods to orphanages.  Should you have gently used shoes, clothes for teenagers, youths, and toddlers, kindly make them available to Hilaire.

If you would like to donate to this effort, you can send your donation to the following address:
