William Ernest “Bill” Chaney, Jr., 91, a lifelong resident of Dunkirk passed away September 17, 2021. He was born November 13, 1929 in Dunkirk to William Ernest and Ruth M. (Hauser) Chaney. Bill was raised in Dunkirk and joined the United States Air Force on July 9, 1951 and was honorably discharged on July 8, 1955. He married Susan Raino on June 19, 1974 and they made their home in Dunkirk. Bill worked as an electrician at Andrews Air Force Base for many years, retiring in 1988. Bill also worked part time at the Upper Marlboro A&P for 10 years.
He loved judo and volunteered as a judo instructor with Calvert County Parks and Recreation, starting in the mid 1980’s. Bill also enjoyed slot machines, collecting stamps and coins, working in the yard, watching Westerns, and being with his dog Sassy.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Susan B. Chaney, children Elizabeth A. Antoniolli and husband Paul of Aquasco, Robert W. Chaney of West Virginia, Charles Michael Chaney of Oregon, Dawn D. Chaney of Mechanicsville, and Heather Chaney-Frye of Pooler, GA. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and sisters Jean Chaney Touchette of Burlington, NC, Patricia Chaney O’Brien of Dunkirk, and Sherry Marie Clark and husband Bill of Dunkirk. He was preceded in death by his son William E. Chaney III and a grandchild.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd at the Rausch Funeral Home, 8325 Mt. Harmony Lane, Owings, MD 20736

Heads Up concussion training, through the CDC’s website, is a requirement for all members of your USJF registered club who function as teachers at any time. Hilaire Notewo Seeking Donations for Judo Programs in the Ivory Coast, Needs Gis and Equipment
Longtime Shufu Judo member Hilaire Notewo is planning to relocate to Côte D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Africa in late November/December. He will be supporting judo programs, but equipment (esp. judo uniforms) are difficult to come by. Hilaire is looking for gently used judo gis and other equipment. Hilaire will also be visiting and donating goods to orphanages. Should you have gently used shoes, clothes for teenagers, youths, and toddlers, kindly make them available to Hilaire.
