Gaiv Tata, Shufu Tournament Recorder

Gaiv Tata, a sandan from Michael and Sharon Landstreet’s Arlington Judo Club, has accepted the position of Tournament Recorder for Shufu Yudanshakai.

The Shufu Tournament Recorder is responsible for recording tournament points which are used in the assessment of senior promotions.  These points vary according to the competitors’ ranks and the winning scores.

Gaiv is a highly experienced judoka as well as a long-time finance executive with the World Bank.  He holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

“I’m happy to be doing some of the work for Shufu.  I’ve been a member for quite some time, and now that I have a bit more time to contribute, I’m looking forward to beginning with this work on tournament recording, which is obviously an important task.  Not a glamorous one but important.  It should be the building block for us to think more broadly about how we run tournaments and help competitors keep track of their progression in judo more systematically.”

Gaiv will be collaborating with the former Tournament Recorder, Tad Wilson, to ease the transition between their respective stewardships of the position.

Shufu thanks Tad for his expert management of the tournament points over the years, and welcomes Gaiv Tata as the new Recorder.
