The Faye Allen Memorial Kata Tournament has been a Shufu Yudanshakai tradition for many years. On September 23rd and 24th, DC Judo will host the 2016 event in Washington DC at the Edgewood Arts Center 3615 8th St NE. Registration is online at our event page or click here for the event flyer and here for the waiver. The USJF sanction is #16-09-18.

 

This year’s clinician is Sensei Eiko Shepherd 7th Dan. Through the support of USJF, Sensei Shepherd will teach Ju No Kata on Friday evening September 23rd and Katame no Kata on Saturday September 24th. Sensei Shepherd is one of the foremost kata teachers in North America. She will also serve as a kata judge during the kata competition.

 

Friday evening begins at 6PM with check in. The clinic begins at 6:30. No previous experience with Ju No Kata is required. If work or transportation makes you late, please come as you can.

 

Saturday  begins with check in at 8:30 AM, warm up at 9:00, and competition starting at 9:30 AM. The Katame No Kata clinic begins at 11:30AM and runs until 4:30PM with a lunch break.

 

We welcome judoka of all ages and ranks as well as all levels of kata experience. Registration is by participant and once registered you can complete in multiple teams for the same registration fee.  USJF, USJA, or USA Judo membership is required. You must show a valid membership card on site.

 

Competition will take place in the following Judo kata:

  •     Nage No Kata

  •     Katame No Kata

  •     Ju No Kata

  •     Goshin Jutsu

  •     Kime no Kata

 

Please join us in the Nation’s Capital for a day of competition and learning. This year’s venue is the Edgewood Arts Center a 3000 sq ft dance/performance space in the Brookland Arts District.

Shufu’s Athlete Funding
Program provides reimbursement ($150 to $300) for athletes competing in National and
International level events. Juniors, Seniors, Masters/Veterans, and Kata competitors
can all apply to the Shufu Athlete Funding Program. If you have been a member of Shufu for at least 2 years and have participated in any of the events listed below, then you should consider applying for Shufu’s Athlete Funding Program!
