There is no onsite registration. Eligibility to register for promotion All judoka must be a current member of the USJF, USJA, or USA Judo . (USJF members are eligible to be promoted at this event. USJA and USA Judo members may request to be examined and have their results forwarded to the appropriate organization.) For Shodan – current year plus one year prior membership in USJF For Nidan and above – current year plus three years prior membership in USJF Promotion Requirements being used The Shufu Board of Examiners has implemented the changeover to the USJF promotional requirements. The 2026 Shufu Spring Promotional will follow the “2021 USJF Senior Rank Promotion Requirements”, available on the Shufu website under Promotions. All ranks within Shufu’s promotion authority are required to do the physical testing, i.e. all ranks through and including Godan. 2012 Faye Allen Event a Success

Participants at the 2012 Faye Allen Kata Championships and Clinic
On a beautiful early Autumn day, the 2012 Faye Allen Kata Competition and Clinic was held in at the Kennedy Recreation Center in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, September 22. Attended by kata enthusiasts from around the Middle Atlantic region, teams competed during the mid-morning hours, and then participated in a Nage-No-Kata clinic conducted by Senseis Edwin and Jim Takemori for the rest of the morning and afternoon.
Several national kata champion judokas assisted the Takemoris, including Karen Whilden, Diane Jackson, Karl Tamai, and Fran Vall.
Terence McPartland, the tournament director, expressed great satisfaction in the turnout, which was much greater this year than in the past; he is looking forward to the coming year, anticipating even more participation in the kata divisions of major tournaments throughout the region and at the national championships, to be held in Virginia Beach in 2013.
Kata teams should remember that kata divisions will be part of the upcoming Takemori Open on October 13th, and at the Shufu Open on November 17th.
