Kodokan Go Shin Jutsu, also known as the modern weapons self defense kata, was established in 1956 in response to changes in the types of weapons used by an attacker. This kata consists of 21 attacks and defenses – some unarmed and others armed.Uke uses hands, arms, a stick, a knife and a gun to attack tori. Tori uses a combination of nage waza, atemi waza and kensetsu waza applied to wrist and elbow joints to disarm and disable uke.
Get a jump start on learning the Go Shin Jutsu kata or refresh your skills in preparation for Sensei Shepherd’s clinic on July 20th. On Tuesday evenings, starting on May 7, through June, Karen Whilden and Diane Jackson (former national champion team in Go Shin Jutsu) will teach two techniques per Tuesday night from 8:15 – 8:40pm. Come and join a Hui-O practice, 7:00 – 8:40, at Beltsville Community Center, http://www.huiojudo.com/.
