The 32nd annual Shufu Rules Clinic is coming up on Sunday, January 29th!

Roy Englert will be leading the seminar for the 21st time, and has built it into the most regularly conducted and annually anticipated clinic in the 60+ year history of Shufu Yudanshakai.

_L6C0370The rules of shiai competition have REALLY changed!  You don’t want to miss the discussion of the most important changes for the 2017-2020 Olympic Quadrennium, because there are lots of them.

This year’s clinician, Gary Takemoto, joins the long list of outstanding international referees who have given Shufu instructors, clinicians, club leaders, and competitors the most up-to-date rules for judo shiai competition possible, augmented with videos, demonstrations, and personal hands-on guidance.

Sensei Takemoto, who began his judo career at age 6, has been head instructor AJ0E0781_1of the Harbor Judo Dojo in Harbor City, near Long Beach, California since 1984. He earned his National referee certification in 1989, his Continental ‘B’ certification from the International Judo Federation in 1997, and his IJF-A Referee certification in 2004.

He was chosen as the United States’ 2016 Olympic Referee, and has been the United States’ referee for four World Championships.

SO BE THERE!  It’s at Pure Performance Martial Arts Center in Rockville, Maryland on Sunday the 29th.

Here’s a Self-Test:

  • Will a 20% change in the duration of matches really alter tactics? Why and how did the match duration change?

  • Good-bye to the old waza-ari, and good-bye arithmetic. (Huh? .5 +.5 = ??)

  • Yuko, where did yu go?

  • You’d better unpin that pin – faster than ever!.

  • Can you punish a punishing grip, and how long can you “prepare for an attack”?

  • How soon can shido grow up to be a hansokumake?

  • Can you successfully stall in Golden Score?

  • Is a shido worth the same in regulation time and in Golden Score time?

Don’t know all the answers?

You’re not alone, but don’t be left behind!

That’s Sunday afternoon, Noon – 6PM at Pure Performance in Rockville, MD.
