Judo Schedule: Sunday, August 3, 2014. Registration and weigh-in from 9-10:30 am.

 ELIGIBILITY:

  • An athlete must meet the following criteria:
    – A full-time Resident of PA, NJ, MD, DE, NY, WV, OH, DC
    – A full-time Student at a recognized academic institution in any of the above states
  •  Entrants must be USJF, USJI or USJA members. ( We will have USJA & USJF membership forms at the tournament site, if you are not currently a member of the associations yet)
  • All ages are as of August 3, 2014

Tournament FORMAT:

  • Modified IJF Rules will govern this tournament. Current IJF medical rules with no examination allowed except for blood or grave injury will apply in all Senior and Masters divisions. No shime waza (chokes) are allowed for juniors age 12 and under. There will be no kansetsu waza (armbars) allowed in Junior competition. Those who perform prohibited acts are subject to automatic Hansoku Make. Any junior who participates in Senior competition is subject to senior division tournament rules. Kansetsu waza (armbars) will be allowed in all Senior and Masters divisions.
  • Double elimination tournament
  • For all divisions, Madison Weight Classes will be used to maximize competitive opportunities!  In the Madison system, there are no defined weight classes and brackets are made within divisions based on weight at weigh-ins.  This will not only provide competitors with the maximum number of matches, but it will also discourage dangerous weight cutting.
  • Judo will begin at approximately 11:00 am.

  • Fee Online $40
  • For additional divisions $10
  • Fee by Check / Mail $45
  • Fee for Walk on $50

AWARDS

  • Medals are awarded to the top three competitors in each division.
  • Team trophies will be available to the top teams in both the youth and adult divisions.  Team points will be calculated as follows:  gold medal (5 points), silver medal (3 points), bronze medal (1 point).

Coach Certification

SafeSport Certification is now required for all USJF registered clubs. If you have already completed the course and submitted a copy of your certificate, you do not need to resubmit. For more information or to take the course, please visit https://athletesafety.org/

Heads Up concussion training, through the CDC’s website, is a requirement for all members of your USJF registered club who function as teachers at any time. Please advise all of your instructors and assistant instructors of this requirement. The training can be accessed at: http://www.cdc.gov/headsup/

Hilaire Notewo Seeking Donations for Judo Programs in the Ivory Coast, Needs Gis and Equipment

Longtime Shufu Judo member Hilaire Notewo is planning to relocate to Côte D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Africa in late November/December. He will be supporting judo programs, but equipment (esp. judo uniforms) are difficult to come by.  Hilaire is looking for gently used judo gis and other equipment.  Hilaire will also be visiting and donating goods to orphanages.  Should you have gently used shoes, clothes for teenagers, youths, and toddlers, kindly make them available to Hilaire.
